Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream Dessert

Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream

I’ve had green tea and I’ve had green tea ice cream before, but this is the first time I’ve had green tea mochi ice cream. It was… interesting. It’s like a chewy doughy funky-tasting outside around a small ball of green tea ice cream. I don’t really get the combination. Chocolate-dipped ice cream I get. Rolled in nuts? I get. Shrug. Although my pictures make them look humongous (I used tiny bowls for fun), they are actually only about 2 inches in diameter.

Second of all, the box says “Artificial Flavor Added”. Fake green tea flavor? I’m also guessing that this stuff is not naturally flourescent green. All in all, these are easy desserts, but I’ll stick to Ben & Jerry’s.

ewww. that seems kinda ickypoo. but good for you giving it a try. it reminds me of a recipe i got in the mail recently…baked alaska…single servings on cookies. yum. have never had baked alaska but may give it a go.

Hey, i tried these too once! Yeah, they’re “interesting”, alright. I just remember kind of a weird rubbery coating and a cold, icy center.

I was so enthused to try them too…Oh, well, trader joe’s (where I got mine) — you usually have good stuff. I forgive you this time!

  3. Sarcomical Says:

  5. Atul Says:

I’ve had those and they’re great, just a little expensive for what you get. Since you reminded me, I have a feeling I’ll be buying them soon.

what?!?!? i love mochi ice cream. matter of fact i just ate the strawberry flavored ones. :P

  8. boxie Says:

actually I tried them all, except the coffee, they’re all pretty good. Green tea mochi seems to get the mixed reviews. trader joe’s usually have more of strawberry and mango. they don’t have red bean or kona coffee

I love mochi ice cream. Very different from any other kind of dessert I’ve had. I think it was the “chewiness” that surprised me.

  10. Doris Says:

I love mochi ice cream. Just bought a box the other day at Beard Papa in New York City! Green tea was my favorite. I think this is a higher quality ice cream, though. Four flavors came in a pretty box…ate them while I walked…no mess. Delicious!

  11. Sara Says:

Mango Mochi ice cream is the best!

  14. Rebecca Says:

Too Funny. I randomly found this site from a search engine looking for more info on mochi. I love all flavors but green tea is something different and hard to describe. Well,….green tea kinda taste clean, like a soap taste but yet it’s repulsive and somewhat tastey at the same time. I know that sounds weird but overall it’s not a but just an okay flavor. I’m in love with the mango and strawberry.

Where can we buy this stuff? I live in Colorado and we don’t have Trader Joe’s here.

(although, flying home to California tomorrow and plan to hit Trader Joe’s!)

I’m completely addicated to green tea mochi! But green tea ice cream in general is definitely an acquired taste - and another addiction of mine.

I LOVE MOCHI!! The texture is a nice surprise and the flavor is subtle enough to make you eat the whole box just to make sure you like it! I’m hooked.

I did a search and found this. The NY Times Sunday Food magazine just wrote a big article about the next hot thing, “MOCHI!”, love it.

I did a search and found a cool site that sells mochi love stuff, I bought the tote bag so I can buy more MOCHI!!!

  24. Max Says:

I also think that the green tea mochi tastes a bit like how perfume/soap smells. Generally i like the ice cream flavor but mochi’s is a little strange

  28. chiyoung shi Says:

    your so tasty

  29. Infinity Says:

I suppose it’s an acquired taste that’s rather strange to someone born and raised in the U.S. Still, that you tried it at all shows an adventurous side. ;)

Green tea is my absolute favorite, but I haven’t tried taro. Man, taro (purple yam) is the greatest flavour besides chocolate. Westerners don’t know what they’re missing - it’s like it was created solely to make every sweet completely delicious.

    I’m also quite fond of asparagus bubble tea, though it’s VERY sugary for an Asian treat. ^^;

I love mochi. Green Tea is not the bbest flavor tho…. I like coffee and mango the best. Oh well, i guess it’s a required taste!
    Best of luck,
    Hannah

I was wondered if anyone knows where I can get real green tea ice cream? The one from chineese stores do not taste and look the same as the one you can get in sushi restaurant. The one from sushi places is much greener and not as creamy like the one from the store. There is a big difference in a taste!
